Patients will be triaged according to their presenting problem and where possible, offered an appointment in a clinic location closest to their home address (subject to appointment availability and waiting times).

For conditions listed below, refer to the Statewide Referral Criteria for Specialist Clinics:

For Epilepsy and Seizures, refer to First Seizure and Epilepsy clinics for referral criteria.

For all other Neurology conditions, please continue to refer as per clinical assessment and need.

Referral to Eastern Health Neurology Clinics is not appropriate for:

  • Children below 15 years of age (refer to Paediatric Medicine).
  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (refer directly to Plastic Surgery following nerve conduction studies).
  • Chronic pain management (including low back pain and spinal pain).

Management of typical Bell’s palsy (management information is available in  Health Pathways).

If your patient’s condition deteriorates, please send an updated referral via HealthLink SmartForms selecting the Referral Continuation “Amended referral/update previously sent referral” with additional clinical information. 

Emergency cases should be sent to the Emergency Department.
