Any adult patient with neurological symptoms which are not seen in our sub-specialty clinics:

Botulinum Toxin (Botox)

Eastern Cognitive Disorders Clinic (ECDC)

Epilepsy & First Seizure

Movement Disorders

Multiple Sclerosis

Neurosurgery

Stroke & Transient Ischaemic Attack (TIA)

This includes what investigations you need to perform prior to referring to a specialist and what information you need to include in the referral.  If you require login access to HealthPathways, contact [email protected].

For conditions listed below, referrals should meet the Statewide Referral Criteria for Specialist Clinics:

For all other Neurology conditions, please continue to refer as per clinical assessment and need.

Referral to this clinic is not appropriate for:

  • Children below 15 years of age (refer to Paediatric Medicine).
  • Patients who meet the criteria for the neurology sub-specialty clinics.
  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (refer directly to Plastic Surgery following nerve conduction studies).
  • Chronic pain management (including low back pain and spinal pain).
  • Management of typical Bell’s Palsy (management information is available in HealthPathways).

If your patient’s condition deteriorates, please send an updated referral via HealthLink SmartForms selecting the Referral Continuation “Amended referral/update previously sent referral with additional clinical information.

Emergency cases should be sent to the Emergency Department.
