Box Hill Hospital Opening and Visiting Hours

Opening hours

Emergency department 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The new Emergency Department (entrance via Rodgerson Road) is open and the former Emergency Department (Nelson Road) is now closed.

Visiting hours

Visitors are welcome at the Hospital as it is recognised that they play an important role in the provision of support to patients. As the welfare of the patient is a major priority, it is necessary to place restrictions on visiting to enable patients to receive adequate rest.

Visitors are asked to observe patient rest periods and visit in the times outlined below.

Visitors are asked to ensure that child visitors, for their own safety, are under the supervision of a responsible person at all times whilst on the Hospital site.

Some wards will have flexible visiting hours depending on patient needs. Please speak directly to the Nurse Unit Manager or Midwife Unit Manager regarding visiting hours if applicable.

General Wards

8.00am - 8.00pm or at the discretion of the Nurse Unit Manager. All wards are now located in Building A, entrance via 8 Arnold Street

Maternity Service

8.00am - 8.00pm

Partners / support persons may visit at any time with the exception of rest period. Some restrictions may apply. Please speak to the Midwife Unit Manager for more information.

The Box Hill Hospital Maternity Service, including antenatal ward, birthing suites, special care nursery, fetal monitoring and specialist clinics, is now located on Level 3, Building A, 8 Arnold Street

Special Care Nursery

Visiting rights are restricted to parents, grandparents and siblings. Other persons may visit with a parent in attendance. Some restrictions may apply. Please speak to the Nurse Unit Manager for more information.

Children's ward

Family and friends 8.00am –  8.00pm

Parents unrestricted

Intensive Care Unit

Visiting is permitted 24 hours a day. Some restrictions may apply, please speak to the Nurse Unit Manager for more information.
