The Mental Health Social and Emotional Wellbeing Team provides a confidential, culturally appropriate mental health service for Aboriginal and Torres Strait islander consumers accessing any eastern health mental health programs.

The Mental Health Social and Emotional team aims to provide cultural support and advocacy provided by Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal staff. Including linkage Aboriginal Community Controlled Organizations.

The Mental Health and social and emotional wellbeing team is available to any Aboriginal and Torres Strait islander person  of the community , who are linked in with one of the above services and who may be facing some challenges in their lives which may be having an impact on their mental health.

We are unable to take referrals from members of the general public however in the case of mental health emergency or for advice, please call the Eastern Health 24/7 triage line on 1300 721 927. For other emergencies please call 000.

The Aboriginal Lived Experience Peer Support Worker uses the Intentional Peer Support framework to provide Culturally Appropriate Peer Support for the people currently using any of the five mental health inpatient units at Eastern Health as well as their families/carers. Much of the work is listening to, connecting with and being guided by what’s important to the person.

“My role focuses on showing that there is a Light at the end of the tunnel for Mob to be able to get through their mental health recovery. I am here to help Mob alongside the Social and Emotional Wellbeing team to help Mob strive with their recovery”

The Healthy Ageing Service Response is a free government program to support the mental health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders older adults living in the eastern and north eastern region of Melbourne.

It is funded by Eastern Melbourne Primary Health Network (EMPHN) and delivered by Eastern Health in partnership with St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne

The service shall work with older peoples’ existing care and support networks, such as their family, GP and other professionals, in Residential Aged Care Facilities (RACFs) or to support them to remain in their homes within the community.

“‘Whole of person’ needs shall be considered, including alcohol and other drugs (AOD), suicide prevention, psychosocial support, housing, physical health needs, and the impact on the mental health and wellbeing of older  adults.

Once joining the program, together we shall explore your ideas to develop and strengthen your mental health and overall wellbeing through either individual or group sessions and support you to work towards achieving positive outcomes.
