Early Skills Check is a play based screening group for children aged 6 months to 6 years, whose parents have questions or concerns across any areas of their child’s development.

The Early Skills Check is run by our Child and Family Team and includes:

  • Speech pathology
  • Occupational therapy
  • Physiotherapy
  • Dietetics

We can help with school readiness, speech problems, ideas for mealtimes, bedtime and much more. Appointments are preferred, but not necessary. Referral is not required.

  • Children aged six months to six years (not attending school).
  • Children who have not already received a previous diagnosis (e.g. ASD, developmental delay, genetic conditions etc.)

No, feel free to drop in.

No, you don’t need a doctor’s referral, you can self refer to all Community Health services.

However it can be helpful to have your doctor or Maternal Child Health nurse fill out the referral form so that we can direct you to the right service for you and your child.

Attendance at ESC is free of charge.
Additional costs may apply for other community services accessed. The Department of Health prescribes the Community Health fees. The level of fees payable is dependent on the client’s income and whether the client has a concession card. Current fees (July 2016) are: There is no cost for children from low income families (includes HCC holders), $10 for middle income earners, $93.80 for high income earners.
