Eastern Health provides a combined Dietetic and Speech Pathology feeding clinic for infants and young children. An Occupational Therapist may also be involved if required. The team works with children and their families who are experiencing difficulties with feeding or mealtimes. Therapy is provided to infants and preschool aged children individually or in small groups. Appointments are conducted either face-to-face or using telehealth.

We help babies and children up to 6 years of age with:

  • Fussy eating and food refusal
  • Growth concerns
  • Difficulty with food of different textures
  • Difficulty chewing and swallowing

This service is not suitable for children where there are complex or multiple areas of concern, or for children with acute/urgent feeding concerns.

Please note: Referrals for children starting school the next year must be received before the 30th of June.

Parents or carers are able to self-refer a child for assessment.  Referrals are also accepted from any professionals involved with the child (such as a Maternal and Child Health Nurse, Kindergarten Teacher, GP, Paediatrician), as long as consent from the parent/carer is obtained.

To refer a child, please complete the following form:

We are unable to accept referrals for:

  • Children who qualify for early intervention services (ECEI) or NDIS funding
  • School aged children
  • Children attending another service
  • Children from families in the high income bracket
