Eastern Health provides services for initial assessment of breast symptoms, diagnostic investigation of breast conditions, surgical management of breast cancer, and for follow up of breast patients with benign disease or high risk of breast cancer. This clinic is offered at Box Hill Hospital and Maroondah Hospital.

We also provide a comprehensive and individualised treatment of breast cancer, with multidisciplinary services held for men and women in association with the department of oncology and the Peter MacCallum radiotherapy services.

Surgical services available for breast cancer include, breast preservation surgery and sentinel lymph node biopsy.

Information is available on HealthPathways Melbourne for assistance in managing your patient’s condition. For conditions listed below, refer to the Statewide Referral Criteria for Specialist Clinics:

  • Advice on inherited breast cancer (high-risk patients)
  • Breast lumps and other conditions
  • Suspected or confirmed breast cancer

For other Breast Surgery conditions listed below, referrals should be directed to Plastic Surgery:

  • Assessment for breast reconstruction surgery
  • Breast reduction surgery

For all other Breast Surgery conditions, please continue to refer as per clinical assessment and need.

If your patient’s condition deteriorates, please send an updated referral via HealthLink SmartForms selecting the Referral Continuation “Amended referral/update previously sent referral” with additional clinical information. 

Emergency cases should be sent to the Emergency Department.
