As a large hospital network, Eastern Health offers effective management and coordination of clinical trials through the support of a range of services.  

We offer many services and specialist clinics for patients across the Eastern Health network.

Eastern Clinical Research Unit (ECRU) is part of the Monash University Eastern Health Clinical School. 

The Eastern Clinical Research Unit (ECRU) provides clinical trial coordination services for some of Eastern Health’s clinical trials. ECRU is able to support smaller speciality units, which gives more treatment options for our patients to consider. 

ECRU provides expert service in clinical trials for health organisations and the biotechnology sector, as well as support for independent principal investigator-driven studies.  ECRU is involved in more than 150 active clinical trials, with more than 1,500 patients. A large team of over 40 clinical trial coordinators work with a variety of disciplinary groups.

Our clinical trial staff have experience in lead site ethics application coordination and submission to a reviewing HREC.

Here at Eastern Health, we understand the importance of careful assessment of feasibility of trial sites for clinical trials.

At Eastern Health the Investigator who has been approached by the Sponsor to run the trial does not have the authority to sign these agreements. Only Director of Research or their delegate has the legal authority to ratify the confidentiality and non-disclosure agreements on behalf of Eastern Health.  

Eastern Health can enter into either a Master/Institutional or study specific confidentiality agreements. To reduce delays in signing of CDAs please note the following guidance.

Governing Jurisdiction: 

Eastern Health cannot accept USA and Canada as governing jurisdictions. We prefer that Victoria, Australia is the nominated jurisdiction. 

Confidential Material   

Include a clause that one copy of confidential information for the purposes of the feasibility assessment will be kept by the institution. 

All communication with the Eastern Health regarding CDAs should preferably be via the investigator although the Office of research and Ethics can facilitate initial contact. The appropriate principal investigator will lead the determination if undertaking the proposed clinical trial at Eastern Health is feasible.
