21 March is National Close the Gap Day, a day to recognise the inequality in health and socioeconomic outcomes between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people still have higher infant mortality and illness acquirement rates, and a lower life expectancy caused by barriers to safe and timely healthcare. in systems and access.
In Victoria the Yoorrook Justice Commission is conducting an inquiry into health injustice affecting First Peoples. We look forward to their findings and recommendations.
To help us better close the gap, we are hosting a First Nations Health Forum to educate our local First Nations community on the health and wellbeing services available in the eastern region, as well as to let us know how we can improve our services to better meet the needs of Community.
