The career development program is open to all Registered Nurses who have a minimum of 12 months recent acute care experience and demonstrated commitment to professional development. The program seeks to further develop and advance the clinical expertise and practice of the Registered Nurse (RN) working in generalist and specialty acute care environments across Eastern Health.

Streams:

  • Medical / Surgical nursing
  • Critical care nursing
  • Intensive Care Nursing
  • Cardiac Care Nursing
  • Emergency nursing
  • Oncology Nursing
  • Renal Nursing.

The CDP program provides:

  • Theoretical and procedural content that will compliment the clinical practice of the nurse employed in generalist medical and surgical clinical units and other specialty units such as cardiac care, intensive care, emergency, Renal, oncology and critical care units within Eastern Health
  • Support for the RN to apply advanced physiological principles and critical thinking skills to patient assessment and enable improved identification and management of the patient clinical episode in the acute care setting
  • Access to guided supervision to assist the development of advanced nursing skills, problem solving and critical thinking
  • The CDP articulates to Post Graduate studies.
  • The Eastern Health CDP is recognised by La Trobe University. Successful completion of this program enables the participant to apply for RPL for one core unit, within the Master of Nursing
