Maroondah Hospital has a range of exciting capital projects currently underway. All capital projects are guided by Eastern Health’s Clinical Service Plan. This is a long term plan to ensure Eastern Health is able to meet the needs of the local community now and into the future.
Plans for Maroondah Hospital include initiatives to enhance clinical services, increase car parking capacity and ease traffic congestion within the hospital precinct.
Breast Cancer Centre
The Victorian Government’s $10 million Maroondah Breast Cancer Centre project is on track to open in early April 2018. This exciting project will provide a purpose-built facility that brings together the best breast screening, breast cancer treatment and supportive care service.
The new centre will be a ‘one-stop shop’ for women utilising breast screen services and receiving treatment for breast cancer. Construction of the centre is complete and the centre is expected to open to the public in early April.
Co-located on the Maroondah Hospital site, the centre will provide services closer to home for thousands of patients.
- While co-located on the hospital site, there will be a separate entrance for users of the centre from that of the hospital
- Services will be available outside of normal business hours.
- The facility will feature:
- An additional mammography screening room, screening an extra 5520 women each year
- Allied health rooms which will provide for an additional 7200 patients each year
- Consulting rooms where medical professionals can see an extra 12,800 patients each year
- A breast nurse consulting room, supporting an additional 2400 patients each year.
The project is part of the Maroondah Hospital master plan.
Car parking
Car parking within the Maroondah Hospital precinct is a key priority for Eastern Health, to ensure we can meet the needs of our staff, patients, visitors and the community. Work on our new, 102-space car park in Grey St was completed in December 2016.
A comprehensive analysis of the current capacity has been completed and recommendations for future capacity are being developed. We are working with the Department of Health and Human Services and local Council to assess the feasibility of these proposals.
On 28 April 2017, Michael Sukkar, Federal Member for Deakin, announced that the Coalition Government approved up to $2 million in funding to help build more than 350 new parking spaces at Maroondah Hospital. To read a media release, click here.
We will continue to work closely with all our key stakeholders on options available to enhance parking availability in the area.
