Mental Health Act Implementation Project

In October 2012 the Minister for Mental Health released A new Mental Health Act for Victoria - Summary of proposed reforms, which outlines the government's key reform objectives and policy intentions and provides stakeholders with information to begin implementation planning. At this time the Department also established the Mental Health Act Implementation Project (MHAIP) Team to support the smooth transition to the new mental health legislation in Victoria.

In addition to this team, the Department funded each area mental health service with Implementation Project Officers to work closely with them, in order to prepare health services and other affected workforces for commencement of the new mental health legislation. This will involve the preparation and education of staff and aligning clinical practices, systems and processes to meet the requirements of the new legislation.
