Linwood Prevention and Recovery Care

The purpose of the Linwood Prevention and Recovery Care service is to provide brief (1 – 3 weeks) intensive residential recovery care. The target group is adults requiring more support following an inpatient admission prior to returning home, or those who are at risk of relapse where participation in the program could prevent relapse and hospitalisation from occurring.

The teams will provide individualised treatment to consumers, assisting them with the support required to prevent further deterioration of their illness and assist in their recovery. The units employ a highly collaborative service model, working with other parts of the service system and family and carers including nominated person to support the consumers in meeting their goals.

The unit is an 8 bed residential facility with 24 hour staffing based at 5 Hood Street, Mont Albert. The program offers 8 residential placements and 2 community program day placements. The community program is essentially a day program provided within the Linwood residential program. Consumers are encouraged to attend semi-structured groups and outings provided within the program at the time such as recovery, cooking, art, walking, living and learning groups. The groups are not mandatory, with some consumers preferring to choose time out in the relaxing environment.

The Prevention and Recovery Care model of care is an initiative to expand support and treatment options within mental health services. The Central East program (known as Linwood Prevention and Recovery Care) was funded by the Department of Human Services (DHS) Mental Health Branch in 2004. The service is jointly run by the Eastern Health Adult Mental Health Service (EHAMHS), and Mind (a mental health community support service or MHCSS).

Linwood Prevention and Recovery Care provides services to the municipalities of Whitehorse (West of Springvale Road), Manningham and Monash.
