Eastern Health is offering Childbirth & Early Parenting Education to women and their families who are receiving maternity care at Eastern Health Angliss or Box Hill.
The program is offered using a combination of video livestreaming through Microsoft Teams and in-person skills-based sessions.
Participants can access expert education from the Eastern Health Childbirth Educators, who will cover a range of topics including:

- Signs of labour, including when to come to hospital
- Role of the support person
- Comfort measures for labour
- Medical options for pain management in labour
- When things deviate from ‘normal’ – induction of labour, caesarean section
- Caring for your newborn, including feeding options, safe sleeping and settling
- Transition to parenthood, communicating with your baby and community supports for the family
- The face-to-face session includes a tour of the maternity unit
The series are delivered in either two consecutive Saturday sessions or four consecutive weeknight sessions. We recommend booking at your earliest convenience and commencing classes around 30 to 32 weeks’ gestation.
