Patients are comprehensively assessed by an advanced musculoskeletal physiotherapist (experienced physiotherapist).
The physiotherapist will complete a thorough clinical assessment and use a number of questionnaires to determine the most appropriate management pathway for each person. This may involve referral for non-surgical management, monitoring or referral to see the orthopaedic surgeon. ,
Eligibility Criteria
Patients referred to the Eastern Health orthopaedic outpatients for hip and/or knee osteoarthritis may be triaged to either the physiotherapy- led or the rheumatology-led OAHKS.
It is recommended the patient has a recent weight-bearing X-ray within the last 6 months. It is preferred that the X-rays have been taken in one of the following Eastern Health Sites (Angliss, Box Hill, Maroondah or Healesville Hospital), or MIA (Imed). This makes the X-rays available to us to view electronically.
Please ensure that any relevant test results, past medical history and a list of current medications accompany the referral.
