Infectious diseases (Public Clinic)

Eastern Health accepts referrals for a general infectious diseases clinic that runs weekly on a Monday afternoon at Box Hill Hospital.

Conditions that we accept referrals for include:

  • HIV
  • Mycobacterial infections including tuberculosis
  • Travel-related and tropical infections
  • Complex or chronic bacterial infections
  • Management of latent infections in immunocompromised individuals
  • Follow up of occupational and non-occupational exposures

Referrals are triaged depending on priority. For urgent concerns we encourage clinicians to contact the on-call ID registrar or physician through the hospital switchboard via 1300 342 255. Acutely unwell patients can also be directed to the Emergency Department at any time.

Outpatient clinic referrals should include:

  • Patient demographics including current contact information
  • Medical history and allergies
  • The clinical question or reason for referral
  • Copies of relevant investigations
  • Your details and provider number

Taking time to ensure key information is included will help to ensure your patient is patient is appropriately triaged.
