Pelvic girdle pain in pregnancy

 

There are two areas of Women’s Health Physiotherapy in Eastern Health:

Continence and Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy

Currently available at Yarra Ranges Health and Peter James Centre (Eastern Health Continence Clinic) and Box Hill Hospital
Continence and Pelvic Floor Physiotherapists can assess and treat women and men with pelvic floor, bladder, bowel and/or prolapse problems such as:

  • Leaking when coughing or sneezing
  • Getting to the toilet too late or going to the toilet too frequently
  • Experiencing constipation or not being able to hold on to bowel motions
  • Before and after gynaecological surgery or prostate surgery
  • Pelvic organ prolapse

Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy

Currently available at Yarra Ranges Health, Angliss Hospital and Box Hill Hospital

Physiotherapists can assist women in coping with pregnancy related and common post-natal musculoskeletal conditions such as:

  • Back and neck pain
  • Carpel tunnel syndrome and wrist pain
  • Pelvic joint pain
  • Weakness and stretching of the abdominal muscles and any other aches and pains associated with the physical demands of being a new mum
  • Exercise advice for pregnancy and new mothers
  • Leakage of urine and pelvic floor muscle exercise education (referrals can be made to the continence physio for further assessment in this area if required)
