The Occupational Therapist works together with children and their families to address developmental concerns in the areas of fine motor, gross motor, self-care and developing sensory processing skills.
The Occupational Therapist works with children aged from 6 months to the end of Prep.
Reasons for referrals may include:
- Fine motor difficulties – drawing, colouring, writing
- Clumsiness or coordination difficulties impacting on gross motor skills
- Difficulty using children’s tools (pencils, scissors, cutlery)
- Sensory seeking or sensitivities
- Difficulties using playground equipment
- Difficulty with self-care skills e.g. dressing

No you don’t need a doctor’s referral, you can self refer to all Community Health services. However it can be helpful to have your doctor or Maternal Child Health nurse fill out the referral form so that we can direct you to the right service for you and your child.
The level of fees payable is dependent on the client’s income and whether the client has a concession card. Current fees (February 2019) are:
- There is no cost for children from low income families (includes Health Care Card holders),
- $17 for middle income earners
- We cannot provide services for high income families > $118,546 (plus $6,206 per additional child)
