What is a GTT? 
A GTT is a blood test used to check how your body processes sugar. It involves multiple blood samples taken over a few hours. 

Preparation: 

  • You will need a referral from your doctor. 
  • You must fast overnight (typically 8–10 hours) before your appointment. Only sips of plain water are permitted. 
  • The test usually takes 2–3 hours, so please plan accordingly. 
  • Please arrive 10 minutes early to allow time for check-in.

What to Expect: 

  • A fasting blood sample will be taken when you arrive. 
  • You’ll be given a special glucose drink. 
  • Further blood samples will be collected at timed intervals. 
  • You must stay at the centre for the full duration of the test.

We understand that blood tests can be daunting for children and their parents. Our experienced collection staff are trained to make the process as calm and comfortable as possible. 

Preparation Tips:

  • Bring a comfort item like a toy or book. 
  • Keep your child well-hydrated unless otherwise instructed.

Venesection is a therapeutic procedure used to remove blood to treat conditions like haemochromatosis or polycythaemia. 

What to Bring:

Children (Paediatric Tests)

Glucose Tolerance Test (GTT) 

  • Strict fasting is required 
  • The test takes 2–3 hours 
  • You’ll need to stay at the collection centre the entire time 

Venesection 

  • Ensure you follow your doctor’s advice 
  • You may need to rest briefly after the procedure
