Eastern Health gratefully and humbly acknowledges the traditional owners of the land in which our health services reside – the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin nation.
Wurundjeri Week is a time for us to acknowledge and celebrate the traditional owners of greater Melbourne, including the land that all Eastern Health’s campuses have been built on.
The Wurundjeri People take their name from the Woi wurrung language word wurun meaning the manna gum, which is found along Birrarung (Yarra River), and djeri, the grub found in or near the tree. Wurundjeri are the Witchetty Grub People and their Ancestors have lived on this land for millenia.
Eastern Health is both proud of and grateful for our relationship with the Wurundjeri Woi wurrung Cultural Heritage Aboriginal Corporation, especially in the naming of murrenda and nangnak warr bagora. We value our relationship with the Wandoon Estate Aboriginal Corporation, which has supported Eastern Health in our cultural learning and understanding of self-determination at Coranderrk. Our Executive Team and Board have the honour of visiting Coranderrk in September, and will spend time learning from, and listening to Elders.
