Executive Assistant, Lee-Anne Scott’s role is more than just meetings and emails.

This Administrative Professionals Day (2 May) we recognise the vital and wide reaching work of our staff who are often behind the scenes, and are at the core of what keeps Eastern Health running smoothly.

“We facilitate meeting papers and ensure that our executives are meeting their deadlines. We make sure that everything in our organisation or in the various directorates run like a well-oiled machine,” Ms Scott said.

“No day is the same. You’ve got to think on your feet all the time and just be really prepared for anything that comes your way.”

Ms Scott’s work spans reporting, HR, payroll, understanding Enterprise Business Agreements and even fielding patient enquiries that come through the call centre.

“I also help with making sure that coroner reports and legal documentation is submitted. For example, if we have a body that’s been kindly donated for science, we must ensure all the relevant paperwork is accounted for, and as a result allows us to have a really positive impact.

“I also had the pleasure of helping with the Angliss Ferntree Gully Op Shop. I really loved working with those people and trying to get that op shop running for the volunteers,” she said.

For Ms Scott, the human side of the job is very rewarding.

“Everyone is really approachable. Regardless of what level in the organisation, they’re still human beings, and you’re treated as an equal.

“There’s also a level of trust your executives have in you with confidential information that’s a big thing. It’s valuable for them to know you’re 100 percent confident in the tasks you’re carrying out.”
