“We are the fastest in the country.”

As we celebrate National Stroke Week (5-11 August), it is a perfect opportunity to highlight the award-winning work of our Eastern Health Box Hill stroke team.

The ‘Door to Needle Time’ is a metric used to measure how quickly a patient potentially suffering a stroke, is brought into the Emergency Department, assessed, and given the lifesaving clot busting medication.

“The quicker we treat a stroke patient, the quicker their recovery can begin. Every minute that we save, is a day of disability for them” says Tanya Frost, Acute Stroke Nurse.

National Stroke Week encourages the community to know the F.A.S.T. (Face, Arms, Speech, and Time) signs of stroke so that they can save a life in the event of a loved one experiencing a stroke.
