This year marks the 25 years of Nurse Practitioner care in Australia, and for Nurse Practitioner Week (8-14 December) we’d like to recognise the wonderful contributions of our nurse practitioners.
“For a profession, twenty-five years is still quite new, there are still many people who don’t know what a nurse practitioner is, and we are still continuously improving our profile, so we’re going strength to strength.” Jenelle said.
Jenelle is a Nurse Practitioner for the Hospital Admission Risk Program (HARP) at Eastern Health.
Nurse Practitioners are able to diagnose, prescribe and interpret pathology and medical imaging to help a patient with their treatment. They are also able to independently make treatment plans.
“Nurse practitioners are there to identify the gaps that we see and eliminate barriers that patients had to accessing good care, at the right time.
“We are all about finding that innovation to improve our patient outcomes.”
