Thursday March 20, 2025
Thursday 20 March is National Close the Gap Day; a time to recognise the resilience, innovation and success of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, despite the challenges faced over generations.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people still have higher infant mortality and illness acquirements and a lower life expectancy, caused by barriers to safe and timely healthcare.
Eastern Health is committed to achieving equality in health status between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and non- Indigenous Australians. We are reminded that achieving health equality will require active change and access to culturally safe care.
While progress has been made, ongoing meaningful action must continue to occur, to effectively address the complex factors that contribute to health inequities for Community. By prioritising culturally appropriate care and community involvement, Eastern Health aims to assist in closing the health gap and ensure equitable healthcare for all.
