Eastern Health has launched a fundraising campaign to support thousands of patients requiring surgery each year through the addition of a new Image Intensifier at Eastern Health Box Hill.
Every day, patients need surgery that depends on speed, precision, and the right equipment.
In these moments, surgeons rely on Image Intensifiers to guide critical decisions during complex procedures.
“It’s not a machine. It’s a superpower,” says Raphael Hau, Clinical Director of Orthopaedic Surgery at Eastern Health Box Hill.
“You can think of it as X-ray vision. It helps us get it right the first time.”
But at Eastern Health Box Hill, just three Image Intensifiers are shared across 10 operating theatres, and the need for this equipment is growing.
Eastern Health completed more than 40,000 surgeries last year, a 15 per cent increase on the previous year, with demand expected to continue rising across Melbourne’s east.
A fourth unit would improve access to real-time imaging during surgery, helping clinicians work more efficiently when time matters most.
Eastern Health Foundation Director Veronica Lyons said the campaign is focused on supporting surgical teams to meet rising demand.
“This equipment will support thousands of patients over many years,” she said.
“It’s about ensuring our clinicians have access to the tools they need when patients can’t afford to wait.”
The Image Intensifier is expected to support patient care for more than a decade.
Please donate by 30 June to help ensure patients get the surgery the need, sooner.
