Patients can once again enjoy garden therapy, thanks to our wonderful volunteers.

At Eastern Health Wantirna, patients in the purpose-built palliative care and GEM (Geriatric Evaluation and Management) ward unit can once again experience the calm of garden therapy. These gardens now provide a welcoming environment that supports mobility, connection, and emotional wellbeing for residents, patients and visitors.

Physiotherapist Joanna Lang is delighted to see the garden therapy return:

“The patients will get so much joy in watching the plants grow – going out, sitting, and enjoying the bird life it will attract. Just from that visual experience of bringing colour, by looking out the window, to actually getting their hands in the dirt.”

This transformation was made possible by BankVic volunteers, who dedicated their time during their annual corporate volunteer day. By contributing their skills, energy, and care, they provided resources the hospital otherwise would not have access to.

BankVic Relationship Manager, Jacinta Anderson said it was heartwarming to support the Eastern Health community in a uniquely meaningful way. “Our team was touched at being able to make a real impact on how people feel at what can be a challenging time.”

We extend our heartfelt thanks to all BankVic volunteers. Because of you, patients at Eastern Health can once again experience the calm that garden therapy brings.
