Eastern Health is recognising some of the incredible women in our workforce, during the week we celebrate International Women’s Day (8 March).
Dr Rania Abdelmotaleb is a team player in every sense.
As a Rehabilitation Medicine Physician she has a deep passion for the care she provides and the people she works with.
“I love to work in a team and in rehabilitation we all work with different perspectives and different disciplines. Team work forms good quality. I love listening and exploring to different thoughts and getting different opinions. This is how we get the best outcome for the patient,” she said.
“Every day I wake up and say, how can we provide the best care?”
Teaching these principles of team work to her junior doctors enhances their learning and encourages improvement every day.
“Seeing my junior doctors finishing and passing their exams, finishing their fellowship, becoming consultants is very rewarding,” Dr Abdelmotaleb said.
It was almost inevitable that life would lead her to becoming a physician. Fuelled by determination and passion for empowering others, Dr Abdelmotaleb has not only helped hundreds of patients, but has also overcome challenges to enhance clinical practices.
“I am so proud of my team. We started the Rehab in the Home program in April last year and it has been amazing. This program was started from the scratch and now we are supporting young patients out in the community.
We couldn’t have achieved that without the team,” she explained.
“It was a lot of work but I’m always saying that difficult or challenging times are an opportunity to learn.”
As part of celebrating the incredible women at Eastern Health, the executive leadership team have chosen to recognise six women for their efforts in embodying our values and striving towards our strategic goals.
“It’s so wonderful to be recognised in this way. I’ve just been trying to do what I believe is best for my team and my patients,” Dr Abdelmotaleb said.
