The Health Promotion team collaborated with Healesville High School to inspire students to create enjoyable and nourishing lunchboxes.

During National Lunchbox Week, the Health Promotion team organised a smoothie bike event at the school.
Students were able to participate in a fun physical activity and drink a nutritious smoothie, all while having the opportunity to learn more about the importance of creating and eating a nutritious lunch.

Eastern Health – Health Promotion Officer, Beth Truman says community outreach events like these, share valuable information in an engaging way.
“Eating a nutritious lunch is important for school children of all ages to maintain focus and energy throughout the day. However, some children experience barriers to eating lunch which can be addressed through improved understanding around how to create a nutritious lunch and why eating lunch is important.
“The promotion of national campaigns like National Lunchbox Week, act as a great way to encourage schools to improve student health and wellbeing,” she said.

Packing a lunchbox doesn’t have to be perfect – it’s about creating meals that nourish and work for your family.
Six healthy food groups to include in your children’s lunchboxes include:
– Fruits
– Vegetables
– Milk, yogurt and cheese
– Meat or meat alternatives
– Grain and cereal foods
– Water
