Eastern Health Leading the Way in Advanced Blood Cancer Testing

Eastern Health has introduced a new diagnostic test in its Flow Cytometry Laboratory to rapidly detect T-cell blood cancers, including leukaemias and lymphomas.

By bringing the testing on site, turnaround times have been reduced from 3–4 days to just 2–3 hours, enabling faster diagnosis and care.

The new test uses an advanced dual-marker approach, providing clearer and more reliable results than older methods. It has been extensively validated and shown to be highly accurate.

Eastern Health is the first service in Victoria and Australia to perform both TRBC1 & TRBC2 tests. The work was presented at the International Flow Cytometry Society meeting in Perth in November 2025 and received strong interest.

This innovation strengthens Eastern Health’s commitment to timely, high-quality diagnostic services and supports earlier treatment decisions for patients.
