Championing the importance of social and community services

“Health is not just the absence of illness; it’s also looking at the other factors that keep people well. Whether it be social connection, housing, or access to education, they are all important.”

Michelle Fleming is Deputy Director Operations, Community and Integrated services at Eastern Health. With a background in Health Promotion, she brings a different perspective to her role.

“One of the things that makes me really proud to work for a large public health organisation like Eastern Health, is that we’re working with people who might not necessarily have the means to access services, but there’s real equity of access to health.”

Michelle’s role overlooks community services at Eastern Health, including GP clinic, Community Health, Aboriginal Health and Subacute Clinics.

These services provide assistance for people at the start of their healthcare journey, and as they come out of the hospital and transition back into their daily lives, working towards our promise of being healthier together.
