Celebrating International Day of the Midwife

“A huge part of our work is about empowering and supporting women through their journey.” 

Midwives play an important role in our community, providing care during pregnancy, supporting women through birth and in the postnatal period, their work covers the entire journey of bringing new life into the world. 

For International Day of the Midwife, Olivia Smith, Registered Midwife and Registered Nurse shares what happens on a typical day in the postnatal ward.  

“Whilst we do support the birth of babies, there’s many parts to our job as well.”

And I’m very lucky that here at Eastern Health, we have such a beautiful culture in midwifery around support, leadership, education and mentoring.”
