“I often put myself in the patient’s shoes”
Edwina Dowling started her career in the mid 80’s. Six years later, she trained to become a Midwife, with her graduate year at Eastern Health Angliss.
After a variety of experiences, Ed then moved into the surgery and anaesthetic space, where she is now the Director of Nursing Angliss/Surgery and Anaesthetics Program, and Deputy Director of Operations, Surgery and anaesthetics.
“A beautiful part of Eastern Health is that everyone looks after each other, so if you’re having a more challenging time, people come and support you which is fantastic.”
“Making sure staff are okay is a priority for me. I do that through being visible, being vulnerable, listening and being honest.
With decades of experience and knowledge, Ed reflects on what she would say to her past self if given the opportunity.
“Be true to yourself, follow the guidelines, go with your gut, speak up if something doesn’t feel right, and use your resources around you to improve.”
