17 years of lifelong learning

Associate Professor Evan Newnham is Acting Executive Director, Clinical Operations at Eastern Health. He has dedicated over 17 years working at Eastern Health, and has held various roles including gastroenterologist, general physician, and a few leadership roles across Eastern Health such as Head of General Medicine at Eastern Health Angliss.

“I’ve been very fortunate to have opportunities over those 17 years to grow, have my own lifelong learning nourished and being supported to do that.”

Evan recently completed his MBA and has previously pursued a PhD under the supervision of the head of gastroenterology at the time. His passion for continuous learning aligns with one of Eastern Health’s values of Learning and Improving every day.

Reflecting on the experiences he’s had throughout his career; Evan offers valuable advice to his younger self.

“Don’t worry too much about what other people think of you, in a respectful way of course, and let go of your ego. We are all a small part of a big system, and our focus should always revolve around our patients.”
