In the patients shoes

New consumer advisors have grand plans to get involved in improving patient outcomes.

"My name is Alison, I'm currently studying a double degree in Arts and Law. In my spare time I enjoy practicing Kyudo and if I'm not doing that, you'll probably find me at the back table in the Soda Rock Diner.
The main reason I wanted to join the Eastern Health Consumer Advisory Committee (CAC) was because Eastern Health and it's staff never let me or my family down when we were patients. The staff enthusiasm and care towards us were consistently outstanding and when I thought about how I could benefit my local community in more meaningful ways, I felt like applying for the CAC was the right choice to make. I wanted to be a part of the Eastern Health vision of continuously shaping healthcare to meet the growing needs of its patients, both young and old, so I'm thrilled to be a part of this team and seeing where we can go from here! “As a recent breast cancer survivor (2015) and a career of elderly parents, I decided to re-evaluate my life and focus on matters that are important to me. I changed from being career ambitious to being life ambitious and wanted to utilise my varied skills and knowledge in assisting the community to achieve better outcomes. Living in the Eastern Health catchment area led me to keep an eye open for potential opportunities with this organisation. To my delight, I spotted an ad inviting members join the Community Advisory Committee. The opportunity to provide community input and support a healthcare organisation in providing patients and their families with superior service was too hard to resist.”

“I’m a member of the Partnering in Health Care Clinical Risk Governance Committee at Eastern Health and have also participated in various activities aimed at enhancing the quality of patient experience.
I’ve had ongoing involvement in the disability sector, where I serve on the board of an organisation that provides support services to adults with intellectual disabilities.
I’m truly passionate about ensuring health and care services reflect the needs of all users and delivered in an integrated manner. With my experience and community connections, I hope I can bring an informed voice on issues important to service users of varying needs and perspectives as an Eastern Health Community Advisory Committee member.”
