Eastern Health is pleased to announce the name of the new $10 million cancer facility in Melbourne’s east as Eastern Health Breast and Cancer Centre.

Located on site at Maroondah Hospital, the centre will bring breast screening, breast cancer treatment and supportive care services together under one roof.

Eastern Health Executive Director Clinical Operations Acute & Aged Medicine, Specialty Medicine & Ambulatory Care, Pathology, Pharmacy, Patient Access & Allied Health, Matt Sharp, is delighted with the name and progress of the centre.

“The naming process was thorough and involved consultation with patients, Eastern Health and BreastScreen staff.”

“The Eastern Health Breast and Cancer Centre will provide an integrated service for patients requiring screening and for patients who are diagnosed with cancer and require treatment. A clear goal of all service providers and clinicians is to provide holistic care and the name reflects that.”

The new centre will feature:

  • Two ultrasound rooms that will be able to conduct guided biopsies
  • Four medical imaging reading rooms
  • An additional mammography screening room, which provide capacity to see an extra 5520 women each year
  • Allied health rooms providing support to an extra 7200 patients per year
  • Consulting rooms, where medical professionals can see an extra 12,800 patient attendances for treatment each year
  • A Breast Nurse consulting room that will support an additional 2400 patients each year
  • A wellness lounge where patients can consider their care in a home like environment

Eastern Health Breast and Cancer Centre is expected to open in April 2018.
