The Hon. James Merlino, MP, Minister for Mental Health, Deputy Premiere of Victoria paid a visit to Box Hill Hospital today to announce a boost to the mental health workforce.
As part of the announcement, Eastern Health has developed a Mental Health Graduate Program for Allied Health Graduates in Social Work, Occupational Therapy and Psychology.
The program directly supports the Royal Commission in to Mental Health recommendation that acknowledges significant workforce shortages in the system including recommending educational pathways and recruitment strategies be implemented to support a diverse mental health and wellbeing workforce
The Eastern Health program included significant consultation to create a model reflective of the needs of health services across the state. The model provides a structured learning framework to ensure that the workforce have the skills, knowledge and attributes required to provide ‘recovery focussed care’ tailored to the needs of people with mental ill health and their families, carers and supporters.
More to come.
