Welcoming Back our Volunteers

Friday, April 29, 2022

"Because of the pandemic, many patients are arriving at their appointment alone, without partners or carers, so our role in welcoming and guiding them to their appointment has become even more important"

Maria is a volunteer Welcome Ambassador at Box Hill Hospital and helps patients find their way when they visit the hospital. Due to pandemic restrictions, our volunteers haven't been able to provide care to patients for almost two years. Eastern Health is delighted to welcome back our valued volunteers.

"Patients are really just pleased to be back, pleased to have their appointments and get back to caring for their health again"

After retiring from her role as a high school principal, her husband was admitted to Box Hill Hospital due to a heart attack and seeing the great care he was provided, wanted to give back to her local hospital.

“It’s important to realise that volunteers are part of care, each and every person has a role to play in patient care, from security, reception, nurses to medical staff, we’re all here to help patients have the best possible experience they can.”
