From the Chief Executive February 2021

Monday, February 08, 2021

An Order of Australia is appointed to 'recognise and celebrate outstanding Australians - everyday people who do extraordinary things for their local community and for Australia'.

Turning Point Executive Clinical Director, Professor Dan Lubman, was recently appointed an AM, a Member of the Order of Australia, for 'significant service to medical education, research, treatment and policy in the field of addiction'.

Dan's commitment to helping improve the lives of people and their families affected by addiction began back in 1999, when he found Australian treatment services and pathways severely lacking.

Dan has spent the last 20 years working towards one very clear goal; to change the conversation around addiction and break down the stigma associated with this chronic health disease, one of Australia’s most misunderstood health conditions

2021 promises to be a big year for raising awareness around all aspects of addiction.

Along with his AM appointment, Dan and the Turning Point team have launched the Rethink Addiction campaign.

More than 40 organisations of the health sector have joined the sector-wide coalition, in a united push for change that educates and calls for an improved national response to addiction treatment.
