Eastern Health Pharmacy is committed to the safe and effective use of medicines through innovation, research, and education. As an award-winning department, we are proud to embed research into routine clinical practice, with a strong focus on the quality use of medicines across the health service.
Our department actively leads and supports research that aims to optimise patient outcomes, reduce harm, and advance pharmacy practice. Many of our pharmacists hold advanced research qualifications and are engaged in collaborative projects with clinical teams, academic partners, and industry.
We publish regularly in peer-reviewed medical and pharmacy journals and present at national and international conferences, with research spanning medication safety, analgesic stewardship, digital health, emergency medicine, and consumer co-design.
Eastern Health Pharmacy also plays a critical role in clinical trials, ensuring investigational products are dispensed and managed in accordance with the National Clinical Trials Governance Framework (NCTGF) and Good Clinical Practice (GCP). This supports the safe and ethical conduct of research across our sites.
We collaborate with several leading universities, including Monash University, RMIT University, La Trobe University, and Deakin University, and actively support student research projects and placements.
Healthier Together, we’re shaping the future of healthcare through evidence, innovation, and excellence in patient care.
At Eastern Health, pharmacist and technicians at all career stages are supported to participate in research, from intern projects through to residency, postgraduate study and PhD programs, with opportunities to present at conferences and collaborate on larger, practice-changing studies.
In 2024, Eastern Health Pharmacy was proud to receive the prestigious A2i Award for Consumer Participation, recognising our research that embedded meaningful consumer involvement in the design and delivery of patient-centered medication label to improve understanding of oral anticancer therapies.
