How you’ve helped

Eastern Health volunteer, Estelle Foudoulis is going above and beyond to help support an award-winning program that is increasing patient safety and wellbeing.

Currently completing a Bachelor of Health Sciences at La Trobe University, Estelle has been volunteering at Peter James Centre in Burwood East for over a year. However this wasn’t enough to satisfy the passionate student, who is now organising a circus-themed charity event to help expand Eastern Health’s falls and wellbeing program.

When Cynthia realised she had helped a woman find her voice during a wellbeing session at Eastern Health’s Peter James Centre, she knew she had made a big difference to someone’s life.

"A patient I was caring for was suffering from a condition that hindered her ability to speak," Cynthia said.

"I sat with her for a while, looking through pictures of movie stars from the past. Her eyes lit up and I knew she was trying to talk to me. Finally, she managed to speak. It was the most emotional and rewarding experience to know I had taken enough time to help this patient communicate again."

Cynthia is one of hundreds of volunteers taking part in Eastern Health’s award-winning Falls and Wellbeing Program, all with their own personal stories of achievement.
