Box Hill Hospital has received an outstanding donation from the Chinese community, with an event to tantalise the tastebuds raising $149,000 to purchase medical equipment and conduct research.
Alan Lilly, Chief Executive of Eastern Health recently hosted an informal dinner at the RSL Club Box Hill to thank the organisers of the inaugural 2015 International Star Chefs Charity Night. Organised by Mr Ron Lim JP and Sun Tsui Luen, the charity night raised funds for the Eastern Health Foundation by bringing together Australia Michelin Star Chefs from countries including Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan, China and Hong Kong.
“These exceptionally talented chefs took guests on a dazzling cultural journey throughout the event. Many fundraising activities took place over the course of the evening and achieved an outstanding result of $149, 000,” Cr Robert Chong OAM, Chairman of the Eastern Health Foundation Board said.
Cr Chong was involved in the planning and arrangements for this significant event.
Special guest, the Hon. Ernest Wong MLC, Member of the NSW Legislative Council said the success of the event is a reflection of the Chinese community’s generous support of the overall healthcare of the community.
Mr Lilly said funds from the event will be used to purchase medical equipment for Box Hill Hospital to provide improved care for patients, and to support a range of vital research projects through the annual Eastern Health Foundation Research Awards program.
Funds will also provide strong support for a newly established a fund for future initiatives at Eastern Health
“We value the generosity and goodwill of the Chinese community and their commitment to Box Hill Hospital, and their boundless creativity and energy in raising funds,” Mr Lilly said.
“We would like to extend our sincere thanks to all involved in the organisation of this event, including the chefs for donating their time. This fundraising result is unprecedented for an event of this kind and we are extremely grateful to the Chinese community for their generosity,” Ms Anne Gribbin, Director of the Eastern Health Foundation said.
Co-organisers of the event included the Hong Kong Chinese Chefs Association, Singapore HK International Restaurant Trade Fellowship Association and the event production team Heat! Production Australia.
