Wantirna Health, part of Eastern Health, is seeking support to purchase one or more highly specialised electronic hospital beds, called Citadel beds, for patients in our Supportive and Palliative Care Ward.
This project aims to provide the best possible equipment for our patients who are in a lot of pain during their last days of life.
Providing pain free and dignified end of life care is the cornerstone of our work, both for our patients and their families. Citadel beds allow us to keep our patients as comfortable as possible.
Right now we only have two Citadel beds (on a 32 bed Ward), meaning only two people at a time can benefit.
Compared to our older, standard hospital beds, Citadel beds make a significant difference to the way our dying patients experience their last days. With your help, we aim to make eight more Citadel beds available to our patients by 2018.
"Palliative care aims to help people live the best possible quality of life…right up until they die," explains Professor Claire Johnson, Vivian Bullwinkel Chair for Palliative Care Nursing and End of Life Care. "Physical comfort is a very important part of ‘living well’. Having comfortable, versatile beds helps to meet this need for people at the end of their life," says Claire.
Each bed costs nearly $20,000. Will you partner with us to ensure more palliaitve care patients will benefit from the additional features and comfort provided by these specialised beds?
Please contact Eastern Health Foundation on 9895 4608 or email firstname.lastname@example.org to support this program or make a donation online, referencing Citadel beds when asked 'How would you like your donation to be used?'.
