Healesville Hospital was built with the support of our community. Your donation will to help create a Wellness Garden for patients.
My name is Christine Wittkopp and I am a Nurse Unit Manager at Healesville Hospital and Yarra Valley Health. I have worked at Eastern Health for over 18 years.
As you may recall, the opening of the Hospital in 1957 was a major milestone for our community. It was a demonstration of the power of local residents and businesses joining together to achieve a common goal.
Today, more than ever, Healesville Hospital and Yarra Valley Health is part of the fabric of our community.
After a major redevelopment in 2017, our new state-of-the-art facility gives us an opportunity to look towards the future, and further improve the lives of our patients, their families and the wider community.
Over the years, patients have suggested to us that they would benefit from accessing the outdoors during their hospital stay.
We know that viewing or being in nature produces positive changes in a patient’s blood pressure, heart activity, muscle tension and brain activity.
At present, the immediate area surrounding the back of the Hospital is uninviting and underutilised. There is limited opportunity to use the area beyond the small patio.
Being able to build a beautiful Wellness Garden at the back of the Hospital, looking out to Mt St Leonard, will bring nature directly to our patients and their families.
With your help, the garden will provide patients with a safe space to breathe the fresh mountain air, spend quality time with their loved ones, have a break from being inside their hospital ward and give them a quiet place for reflection.
Your gift will transform the space into a Wellness Garden which features trees and plants, bird song, fresh air, sun, shade, fragrance and texture. A feast for the senses!
Please help me provide the very best care for all patients who come to our Hospital by making a gift today.
