Eastern Health Consumers for Health Literacy Online, or ECHO for short. is a newly created online group of consumer representatives who will work collaboratively with Eastern Health staff by reviewing and giving feedback on consumer information and resources to ensure they are easy to read and understand.

Eastern Health has systems in place to ensure our consumer information and education resources are consumer friendly and informed by the best available evidence.

ECHO will further support staff who are creating or updating consumer information and resources, by providing an easy way for staff to seek timely feedback from consumers at different stages of their resource development.

Eastern Health consumer representatives who have chosen to join ECHO are part of this pilot group. After a period of testing and refining of the process, the aim is to recruit more consumers with different perspectives and health literacy levels to join ECHO.

Consumer information and education resources can include anything from written information on Brochures, A4 information sheets, booklets, or flyers, posters, to information in digital formats, such as webpages (EH/external), QR codes linking to information, audio/video recordings.

Staff may also seek consumer feedback on forms or survey questions, or do some preliminary consulting prior to creating a new resource.
