Nurse Refresher Programs

At Eastern Health we offer Registered Nurses and Registered Midwives with current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia through AHPRA an opportunity to re-enter the nursing/midwifery workforce following an extended break from work in the hospital setting.

We deliver a supported education program, including ward-based and online self-directed learning which will enable you to obtain experience and confidence in the acute clinical setting.

The program can be undertaken on a part-time (three or four days a week) or full-time basis over six weeks. The program includes access to educator support, online education, professional development study days, skill acquisition via simulation based learning and clinical placement in the ward setting. There is no requirement to work weekends or night duty.

On successful completion of the program you will have the opportunity to apply for suitable positions within Eastern Health.

Minimum criteria for the program include:

  • Current registration (without conditions) with the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia through AHPRA
  • Ability to demonstrate the right to live and work in Australia
  • A commitment to completing the program of study and clinical placement hours
  • A willingness to undergo pre-employment screening, including reference checks, screening of immunisation status and a police check
  • Computer skills are required to undertake the study component of this program, and for use of the electronic software used for clinical documentation
