The Eastern Health Basic Physician Training (BPT) Network provides a comprehensive and well‑rounded approach to medical education, highlighting clinical experience, professional growth, and dedicated mentorship.
Through our established and robust training program, we equip trainees with the knowledge and skills needed to successfully complete basic physician training, including the RACP Written and Clinical Examinations.

Training Opportunities
All trainees have access to a range of supportive and educational initiatives, including:
- Orientation Night for new trainees at various stages of their training
- An Individual Education Supervisor and Professional Development Advisor to guide learning and career development
- Weekly Grand Rounds held every Tuesday morning, fostering ongoing clinical education and discussion
BPT 1 Trainees
BPT 1 trainees are supported with a broad range of learning and development opportunities, including:
- Weekly physician training tutorials to build core knowledge
- Access to BPT 2 and BPT 3 tutorials for progressive learning across all levels
- Opportunities to assist with clinical exams, including mock exams and the RACP Divisional Clinical Exam
- Research opportunities available across most specialties, encouraging academic growth and contribution
BPT 2 Trainees
BPT 2 trainees benefit from a comprehensive program designed to strengthen clinical knowledge and exam readiness. Key features include:
- Weekly physician training tutorials
- In‑house lectures delivered by consultants and advanced trainees across subspecialties
- Hot Topic series tailored for those preparing for the RACP Divisional Written Exam
- Exam leave to attend study courses
- Mock written exams conducted in collaboration with Monash Health
- Access to BPT 3 tutorials for advanced learning
- Opportunities to assist with clinical exams, including mock exams and the RACP Divisional Clinical Exam
BPT 3 Trainees
BPT 3 trainees are provided with extensive preparation and support to ensure success in their final examinations and clinical practice. Key features include:
- Weekly physician training tutorials
- In‑house long case and short case tutorials
- Weekly public long case presentations
- Weekly mini‑mock clinical exams
- Specialty nights for short case practice (Cardiology, Neurology, Abdominal, Rheumatology),
- Long and Short case practice led by dedicated consultants and advanced trainees
- Mock clinical exams conducted across all three sites (Box Hill, Maroondah, Angliss) in real‑exam format
- Exam leave to attend study courses and dedicated preparation time
- Meditation and wellbeing support to promote balance during training
