Adj Assoc Prof Bianca Devitt

Medical Oncologist, Director of Physician Training of Eastern Health

Adjunct Associate Professor Bianca Devitt is an academic medical oncologist at Eastern Health and Director of Physician Training, dedicated to helping physicians excel in both clinical practice and career progression. She is Deputy Chair of the Medical Oncology Advanced Training Committee for the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and holds adjunct appointments with the Eastern Health Clinical School and the Centre for Health Economics at Monash University.

Bianca is known for delivering practical, high-impact teaching that builds clinical reasoning, exam performance, and confidence. She has a strong track record of mentoring Basic Physician Trainees to successfully design, complete, and present research projects—helping trainees strengthen their CVs and progress to competitive advanced training positions.

Alongside her clinical and education roles, she leads research and clinical trials focused on improving patient-centred care.

Dr Will Browne

Geriatrician, Director of Physician Training of Eastern Health Maroondah

Will Browne has been a Geriatrician at Eastern Health since 2007.

He underwent physician training in Newcastle and Melbourne.

He has worked in a variety of inpatient and outpatient settings, including InReach, GEM@home, memory and complex care clinics.

He is the Director of Clinical Training for Eastern Health Maroondah. His interests include teaching, movement disorders, and the history of medicine. 

Adj. Assoc Prof Kathryn Ducharlet

Nephrologist, Director of Physician Training of Eastern Health Angliss

Kathryn returned to Eastern Health in 2019 as a consultant Nephrologist after being a renal advanced trainee at Eastern Health in 2015 and completing her training and PhD at St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne. 

She completed a PhD (Melbourne Uni) which investigated Renal clinicians’ perceptions of Kidney Supportive Care, Palliative Care and End of life care.  Kathryn’s career has developed as clinician/researcher with ongoing research activities and supervision in areas of treatment decision making, palliative care and kidney supportive care with the Eastern Clinical school, Monash University. Kathryn is the clinical lead of Chronic Kidney disease, Kidney Supportive Care and the Angliss Dialysis unit at Eastern Health.  She is also the co-chair of the Australian and New Zealand Kidney Supportive Care special interest group and is a member of the International Society of Nephrology Kidney supportive care working group.

In 2023 Kathryn joined the Eastern Health Physicians education team as the director for physicians’ education at the Eastern Health Angliss..  Kathryn also enjoys being a bedside tutor to foster clinical skill development for Monash and Deakin Medical students. Her education role includes development and oversight of the basic physicians training Education portfolio at Eastern Health and leadership and supervision of the physicians’ clinical exams at the Eastern Health Angliss.

Dr Alex Leaney

General Medical Physician, Geriatrician, Director of Physician Training of Eastern Health Box Hill

Dr Alex Leaney joined Eastern Health in 2021 after completing her Fellowship training. She is a General Medical Physician and Geriatrician. Alex is passionate about education and works with the Medical Students in the Eastern Health Clinical School and Junior Doctors as Director of Physician Education at Eastern Health Box Hill

Dr Emily Shen

General Medicine and Gastroenterologist, Deputy Director of Physician Education - Examination Lead

Emily completed her fellowship in Edinburgh, UK and then worked in Singapore for the following 10 years. During this time, she helped design an endoscopy unit, started a Singapore wide nutrition group, gave lectures on clinical nutrition in Asia and the United States, lectured in research ethics, chaired a research ethics committee for the National Healthcare Group and was an Adj Associate Professor at the National University of Singapore. 

She then returned to Melbourne and commenced work at Eastern Health as a General Physician and Gastroenterologist.  Emily has an interest in clinical research and was previously the chair of the HREC at Eastern Health. She is a reviewer for several international medical journals. 

Emily has been heavily involved in teaching of both medical students and basic physician trainees. She was an education supervisor for over 10 years at Eastern Health and is currently an Eastern Health deputy Director of Physician Education (exam lead), Regional Examiner for Eastern Health Box Hill and a member of the RACP National Examiner Panel. 

Julie Gibbs

Manager, Physician Education

Julie has looked after the Physician Education program at Eastern Health for the last 8 years and has a background in medical administration and Human Resources. 

Julie enjoys the varied nature of the role from recruiting trainees to supporting the Clinical Examinations on behalf of the Royal Australian College of Physicians. Julie has great satisfaction in seeing the trainees progress through Basic Training and move on to advanced training and achieve their career goals.
