Written Exam Preparation
Eastern Health has a well-established and comprehensive written teaching program. BPTs are well supported to develop their knowledge base to pass the RACP written exam with an array of learning opportunities, including daily small-group teaching from senior clinicians and interactive MCQ quiz’s being distributed in line with the weekly education schedule. Key elements of our program include:

- In-house lectures delivered by consultants and advanced trainees across subspecialties
- Hot Topic series tailored for those preparing for the RACP Divisional Written Exam
- Exam leave to attend study courses
- Opportunity to sit two mock written exams conducted in collaboration with Monash Health
‘Protected’ teaching time
The weekly Education Sessions Schedule mimics the RACP lecture series so that both complement and support your learning throughout the year.
A weekly Education Session is held every Monday from 12.30pm to 1.30pm across our three sites, Angliss, Box Hill, and Maroondah Hospitals.
Should trainees be unable to attend in person, sessions can be viewed in real time via a Teams Link or seen at a convenient time via a recording accessible via the intranet site.
MCQ Quizzes
In the lead‑up to the RACP Written Examination in February, weekly quizzes are distributed to all trainees in alignment with the Education Schedule. These quizzes help trainees refine their skills in answering subspecialty multiple‑choice questions, offering valuable opportunities to practice with senior subspecialty clinicians, strengthen knowledge in key topic areas, and achieve peak performance for the exam.
Trial Written Exams
Eastern Health, in partnership with Monash Health, conducts four full‑length, one hundred‑question trial examinations each year under exam conditions. All examinations are centrally marked to generate a larger cohort bell curve, providing trainees with clearer, more meaningful feedback on their performance and progress.

Eastern Health fosters a strong culture of support for BPT education, with senior clinicians and advanced trainees actively involved in teaching, mentoring, and guiding trainees throughout their journey.
Our BPT program delivers a comprehensive and integrated clinical teaching experience. Trainees benefit from a balanced combination of high‑quality bedside and classroom teaching, exam‑standard long and short cases, and hands‑on clinical exposure. This structure is designed to strengthen clinical reasoning, refine examination skills, and prepare trainees to excel in the RACP Clinical Examination and beyond. Key elements of our program include:
Saturday Cases
Our Senior Medical Registrars organise Saturday morning cases weekly from March to June at Box Hill Hospital. Simulating RACP clinical exam conditions, trainees undertake one long and two short cases with exam-quality patients in outpatient clinic rooms.
Each week two trainees will undertake and present their cases. Trainees are assessed and receive feedback from consultants and advanced trainees. Upon completion, all participants, including bulldogs, receive essential feedback to refine and strengthen their clinical skills.
Speciality Evenings
Organised by our dedicated and enthusiastic Senior Medical Registrar team, these specialty days give trainees the opportunity to examine a broad range of exam‑standard outpatients commonly encountered in the RACP Clinical Examination. Trainees receive targeted assessment and constructive feedback from specialists in each discipline.
These sessions are invaluable for refining examination techniques, enhancing the presentation and discussion of clinical findings, and gaining exposure to less common conditions.
We traditionally offer specialty evenings in Cardiology, Neurology, Respiratory, Rheumatology, and Abdominal specialties.
Weekly Public Long Cases Presentations
All trainees are rostered to present cases to at least one consultant and one advanced trainee weekly, with a maximum of four BPT 3 trainees observers in attendance. These sessions are designed to replicate real exam pressure and enhance performance.
Mock Clinical Examinations
Our trainees participate in formal trial clinical examinations conducted across three Eastern Health sites: Angliss, Box Hill, and Maroondah Hospitals. These examinations follow the official RACP DCE format, including standardised timing, examination assistants, exam‑quality outpatients, and accredited examiners, ensuring a realistic simulation of the actual assessment.
All trainees complete a trial examination in April or May, comprising one long case and two short cases at each site.
