Occupational Therapy is provided at all the major sites across Eastern Health, with a range of inpatient and outpatient services available.
Occupational therapy aims to promote health and well being through occupation. The primary goal is to enable people to participate in meaningful activities of everyday life.
Occupational therapists are part of a multidisciplinary team that provide assessment and intervention for clients in many different settings across Eastern Health:
- Acute Inpatient – orthopaedic, neurology, oncology, general medicine, cardiology, respiratory, plastics and surgery.
- Subacute Inpatient – specialist rehabilitation such as amputee, neurology, orthopaedic, cognitive and palliative care
- Outpatient – a) Community Rehabilitation Program: outpatient rehabilitation provided to clients in their home or at the centre; b) Clinics including pain, hand therapy, driving, falls and balance and movement disorders.
Occupational therapists assist individuals to participate more fully in everyday activities such as self-care, domestic, community, leisure and work tasks. Occupational therapists may recommend home modifications and other environmental changes to address barriers to participation in these activities of everyday life.
Occupational therapists work with people to help them achieve goals that are important to them.
