The Neuro-diagnostics unit at Eastern Health is an integrated team of neurophysiology consultants and scientists who specialise in diagnostic tests for a range of neurological and neurophysiological disorders.  We provide comprehensive diagnostic services for both, in-patients and outpatients.

Investigations include:

  • Nerve conduction studies (NCS)  - Examines the function of the nerves by stimulating the nerves using small electrical pulses.
    • Repetitive nerve stimulation
    • Facial nerve study
    • Blink reflex study
  • Electromyography (EMG) - Examines the electrical activity within muscles by inserting a needle. May be done in conjunction with a nerve conduction study.
  • Electroencephalography (EEG) - Examines the electrical activity generated by the brain
    • Routine EEG
    • Sleep deprived EEG
    • Day monitoring
    • Ambulatory EEG
    • Paediatric EEG - Ages 2 and above. Referrals will need to be triaged by medical or clinical staff prior to request.
  • Evoked responses (VER) - Examines the electrical activity of the brain in response to a visual stimuli

All services are bulk billed.  If you are an overseas visitor or do not hold a current Medicare card, payment for your appointment will need to be made prior this test and to find out about cost for your test, please contact our staff.
